It is a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in vitro diagnostic test to identify specific genetic markers associated with resistance to carbapenem antibiotics in bacterial strains. This test is vital for rapidly detecting these resistance genes, such as those from the blaKPC, blaNDM, and blaIMP families, which are often found in multidrug-resistant organisms like Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli.
