This test measures the levels of porphyrins in urine collected over a 24-hour period. Porphyrins are compounds involved in the synthesis of heme, a component of hemoglobin. Elevated levels of urinary porphyrins can indicate disorders such as porphyrias, a group of genetic disorders affecting heme production.

 

 

Test Preparation :

Urine must be collected in dark color vial/container, wrapped completely with black paper or aluminium foil. Uncoveredlight exposed to light will not be accepted.
